The European Police Congress is taking place in Berlin for the 18th time on February 24 and 25 2015. This "congress" is actually just a trade show for new surveillance and control technology. The event is sponsored by companies from the surveillance and communication industry, who participate to buy speaking time with politicians and authorities. Many new security strategies are introduced at this business conference. 

German police forces and secret services are the primary "end users," but the fair also aims for international markets – arming Fortress Europe pay well. European chiefs of regular and border police troops are invited to speak. Dominant member states introduce many domestic measures in weaker states through the EU. Therefore, the EU Counter-Terrorism Coordinator is usually invited as a special guest and presents "visionary" new control measures.

At the event, Matthias Monroy will discuss the history of the European Police Congress and the entanglements of politics, business and state organs. He will also give an overview of the technical and political environment of current security politics.
