Today, as I walked by Alexanderplatz, my gaze fell on persons standing in silence. They are wearing neon security vests and imaginary handcuffs. Some of them carry invisible cameras and observe other persons. The contact person told me that this action is against the ongoing "European Police Congress" in bcc-congress center opposite Alexanderplatz - www.european-police.eu/Programme/.
This "Congress" is actually a Security Fair. Sponsors like TASER (electroshock-guns), Black Berry and tobbacco company REEMTSMA buy speaking time to promote their products in front of other representatives of the mass-surveillance-industry and decision-makers from relevant authorities (National Spy Agencies, FRONTEX, EUROPOL, INTERPOL...) and politics. The
fair refers back to the "Paris Attacks" and, like every year,
"international terrorism" is a main focal point. The new technological
trend is "predictive policing".
The action will go on opposite the Congress all day long. It is open to everyone.
