The Commander of the ECOMIG forces in The Gambia, on Tuesday, ordered for the arms in the State House, to be transported to the Yundum and Fajara barracks respectively, the Freedom Newspaper, can reveal. Members of the security forces, including security chiefs were mobilized to help move the arms from the State House.

A source at the Yundum barracks said: “The Senegalese Ecomig commander said he wanted the army to help him move the arms at the State House. These people do not know what they are doing. Since their arrival in this country, there hasn’t been any serious disarmament program or recovery of stolen or hidden arms. Arms are scattered all over in this country. This country is not the least safe.”

“The other day, two soldiers were caught with arms at Somita. The Ecomig forces are here sleeping. They are yet to recover some of the stolen arms. The Barrow government is also sleeping. They do not understand the security stakes at hand. They are busy partying and auditioning on the side lines, when rebel forces loyal to Jammeh are armed to the teeth. These are former State Guard soldiers loyal to Jammeh. They looted arms and properties during the political stalemate,” he alleged.

Another security source told the Freedom Newspaper that some arms were handed to the rebels in the Casamance region.

“I was told that the Senegalese government has deployed its troops along the border. They are planning to attack the rebels along the border. There is a strong Senegalese troops presence along the border. I will keep you posted about the arms movement from the State House to Fajara, and Yundum,” said our source.

The Ecomig Command could not be reached for comment at the time of filing this report.
