Gambia: GDC Candidate Escapes Death

Reports have it that the candidate for the Gambia Democratic Congress (GDC) Ebrima Nyang for the constituency of Latrikunda Sabiji was attacked by an assailant armed with a knife just two days before the election.

He escaped death after armed men rushed to the place where the candidate holding a meeting in Latri-Kunda Sabiji, a source reaching Foroyaa adds.

When contacted Inpesctor Foday Conta, the Public Relation Officer (PRO) of the Police, confirmed the report and said that  the attack occurred on Tuesday, 4th April 2017, when one Saikou Camara,  29-year-old and a native of the same area was armed with a knife and went to attend a political meeting of Ebrima  Nyang of GDC.

According to PRO Conta, the suspect Saikou attempted to stab Mr.  Nyang but it was detected by GDC supporters who apprehended and escorted him to Bundung Police Station .

He added that a case file has been opened for investigation to ascertain what had motived the suspect to arm himself with a knife and that preliminary investigation reveals that Camara was acting alone and was not affiliated to any political party as rumoured earlier.

“The office of the IGP urges the general public to be law abiding. That the public is hereby reminded that there is law and order in the Gambia and the police will do everything humanly possible to enforce it to the letter. Anyone found wanting will be dealt with according to the law,” he continues to remind the general public.
