Down Under Berlin Film Festival 16 - 20 September 2015

Down Under film festval Berlin

The fifth Down Under Berlin Film Festival is aalmost here! We will be back at Moviemento cinema 16 - 20 September 2015. This year we will present roughly 40 films and celebrate our anniversary with numerous European, international and German premieres. Our 2015 festival motto is Paradise Unknown: We will explore stories about the journey of life, new beginnings, and surviving the everyday. Come along and see different ideas of paradise as they unfold on the big screen, and discover just how near, or how far, paradise can be in Australian and New Zealand cinema.

THE DEAD LANDS (2014)
The coming-of-age story of a young Māori warrior captivates with breath-taking images and a pulsing soundtrack. This was New Zealand's entry for the foreign language film competition at the 2015 Oscars.

WAKE IN FRIGHT (1971)
Brilliant and terrifying, this Australian classic inspired many films both Down Under and around the world. This  film left Martin Scorsese speechless! Wake in Fright screens as part of our Ozploitation double feature.

WYRMWOOD (2014)
A post-apocalyptic zombie movie which was an internet phenomenon even before it hit Australian cinemas. This feature will take you on a wild trip through the outback as you have never experienced it before.

THE DARK HORSE (2014)
An international festival hit: This provocative and emotionally-charged drama is based on the true story of Genesis Potini, a once heralded chess champion, and features a stellar cast.

ONCE MY MOTHER (2014)
In this multi-award winning documentary Sophia Turkiewicz looks into her mother's incredible and harrowing journey from eastern Poland to a prison camp in Siberia, to a refugee camp in Africa and finally to Australia.

MESSAGE FROM MUNGO (2014)
When archaeologists discovered Mungo Lady, the remains of a 40 000 year-old human, it dramatically changed the knowledge about Australian history. Where some see old bones, others see a part of their family and their ancestry.

NEW TALENTS SHOWCASE
In 2015 the New Talents Showcase returns in cooperation with the Australian Film Television and Radio School (AFTRS) and the Sydney Film School (SFS) to bring you the freshest of the fresh in Aussie filmmaking today.
